Intro: When you start the game, you'll be shown an event of Ryudo preforming one of his Geohound jobs. Saving a treasure from some Orc like beasts. A short while afterwards Ryudo the Lead Character then stumbles upon his next job, where he meets Elena and the Grandia II journey takes off.

Gameplay : Grandia II's gameflow goes into a few main areas.
Events- Like all RPGs, Events are parts of the game that advance the story. Some Events will include spoken Dialouge, others will just be text, during an Event you cannot control a character's text window so make sure you have the free time to play the game, otherwise you may miss some key points in their conversation.

Towns- Towns consist of an Inn (where you can dine-in and talk amoungst the characters like whenthey camp out, & save your game), General Stores (Places to buy items/equipment), Residential Houses (apparently there's no real use other than t house npcs you make speak to, don't expect to find items in them), and special areas (a Church, mayors house, passage ect). What Towns are missing in Grandia II is the Map option that was Available in Grandia, where pressing Select would bring up a map of the Town, making it easier to navigate. Towns do have a Compass though.

World Map- Like in Grandia the World Map is a wonderfully drawn map, but you can only go to places that open up before you as the plot unfolds. Grandia 2's Map is much smaller than Grandia's.

Dungeons: Dungeons (Open & Inside) are a major part of Grandia 2, you'll probally hit 1 or 2 between every town. Like Grandia on the PSX, Encouters will be based on wether you touch the wandering monsters on the screen or not to activate a battle scene. You can Avoid most battles, but my advice is to stick it out and clear the area of monsters, as you'll need the EXP. & Gold. Some Dungeons will include Puzzles as well.

Battles: Fighting will be based off the Speed or IP of your character (faster they are, the quicker they getto act).

Combo- Selecting Combo will allow your character to hit the enemy twice, if one blow is fatal, the character will turn to land the 2nd hit on another. There are a few items that add +1 and +2 to Combo, allowing you to hit up to 3 or 4 times in one turn.

Critical- Unlike Combo, Critical isn't just one hit, it's also Weaker. The catch here is to use it on an enemy that's about to attack to cancel out their move. Another thing is that this will normally delay their turn somewhat.

Skill- Selecting this will allow your character to use any skills or spells (spells vairy per mana egg) they have learned. Skills require SP, Spells require MP

Defend- I only used this a couple times, but its obvious, you Defend to take less damage.
Evade- Basicly like defend, except you try to move out of the range of the enemy.

Menu: In the Menu screen like most RPGs, you get to configure the character's equipment, you may also learn skills/spells or possible upgrade them as well.

Secrets : There are not too many secrets in the game, there are 2 I know of. 1. The Carro Nut mini-game, playing and beating this several times will get you some good items. 2. The area near Roans home near the end of the game will get you a Mana Egg.

Buy VS Rent : Well I really have not seen any good RPGs at Block Buster really, and I bought this at EB Games for $12.99 'Pre-Played'. So if you liked Grandia, I'd buy it.
